Focus on Things You Can Control
That should be your primary new year’s resolution
Choose wisely… You might have declared a new year’s resolution or maybe you’ve set a goal for this year.
I have a suggestion for your main resolution – maybe the following should actually be your only new year’s resolution…
This year, make a commitment to ONLY focus upon things that you can control.
* Learn to differentiate between what you can control and what you cannot.
* Understand the difference between things that you have influence over versus those that you don’t.
Spending energy on what you cannot change / control is a waste of energy. Its only going to lead to stress, anxiety or disappointment.
* You can’t control tomorrow’s weather.
* You can’t change your height to become taller.
* You can’t control the random nature of stock-market prices.
* You can’t control the (un)reliability of the public transport system.
There are too many things we can’t change – but how many times do we stress about those?
Wasting time on things you can’t change means you are unable to spend time on those things that you CAN change – so the opportunity cost of trying to change the wrong thing is very high indeed.
I learnt that the hard way.
If you think about it, you only have control over your actions and your thinking – that’s it. Everything else is not 100% in your control.

Happy New Year – I hope that 2022 is good for you.
